SOAR Scholarship Program

Every year The Sedona Group gives scholarships, known as the SOAR Awards, to deserving recipients. Hosted by Angie Sharp (WQAD on-air personality), this SOAR scholarship is a partnership between Sedona and WQAD. Local high school seniors submit an application identifying how their lives exemplify the 4 attributes of SOAR; Strength, Optimism, Achievement, and Resolve. A panel made up of Sedona and WQAD representatives then select the winners from hundreds of applicants.
The SOAR concept was developed by Kyle John, the son of Sedona President Rick John. During Kyle's battle with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, he developed the theme for this award as part of Sedona's 25th anniversary celebration. At the age of 27, Kyle sadly lost his battle. SOAR has become his legacy. Kyle’s life embodied the characteristics of SOAR, and so do all of our winners. This is why Sedona chooses to recognize them with this scholarship.
Please use the included links to watch the winner's stories. We think you will agree that each of them is deserving of this recognition and truly embodies the SOAR spirit.
